North Country Folk Orchestra

Kick Up Your Heels with North Country Fiddle Orchestra Nov. 2nd in Potsdam!!!


POTSDAM – The North Country Fiddle Orchestra, led by Gretchen Koehler and Barb Heller,  is holding a TAUNY-sponsored community dance on Sunday, November 2nd.

The family-friendly event takes place from 2:30-3:30pm at the First Presbyterian Church community room, located at 42 Elm Street in Potsdam. No experience is necessary and admission is free.  Listeners and dancers of all ages are welcome!

An hour of beginner-friendly folk dances (square dance, polka, contra dance, waltz) will be taught by caller Gretchen Koehler and accompanied by the North Country Fiddle Orchestra.

The NCFO is a multi-instrumental ensemble of all ages that plays a wide variety of fiddle tunes popular in the north country, including music from the USA, British Isles, and beyond.

This TAUNY program was made possible in part by the Petya Perkins Family Foundation & Corning Incorporated Foundation as well as the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

We all remember Stephen (Doc) Fleury as a generous musical collaborator who contributed his time and talents to the Brewerton Center for the Arts as a Board Member. Center owners Dee and John Finkenstadt have graciously offered the use of the Center's beautiful performance space on Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 2 until 6 PM to hold a musical tribute celebrating the music of that Steve brought to us all. We were each fortunate to collaborate with Steve and share in one or more of his musical projects.

Join us in remembrance of TAUNY artisan and friend Mary Ann McLaughlin, who passed away earlier this month. A reception will take place at The TAUNY Center on Saturday, August 2nd at 3 p.m., and will be a time to reflect upon and celebrate Mary Ann's artistry and impact. The event will feature a musical and film tribute by Gretchen Koehler.

Join The Old Time Fiddle Show at the Fiddlers’ Hall of Fame for 2 sets….2-3 PM and 4-5PM! SUNDAY, JULY 20, 2-5pm • Old Time Fiddle Show— North American Fiddlers’ Hall of Fame, 1121 Comins Rd., Osceola. The New York State Old Tyme Fiddler's free concerts are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the generous support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. During the concert, patrons are invited to visit the museum and enjoy refreshments from the Fiddlers Kitchen. All the facilities are handicapped accessible and include a covered pavilion with indoor stage, seating and dance floor. All events are rain-or-shine.
